Summary: | Comparisons and dialogues between different literatures, cultures, and religions are meant to produce a better understanding of ourselves and the other. However, they can also lead unexpectedly to cultural essentialism and stereotypes. This essay critiques the paradigm based on the notion of identity behind these comparisons and dialogues, and calls for a paradigm shift to ‘in-betweenness’ in terms of the Deleuzean idea of ‘becoming’. |
