Description
Summary:The stated intent of this study is to examine early and medieval representations of Eve from a feminist perspective (p. 2), which seems to mean seeking out more positive views of Eve, of which there are, as the book shows, very few. The book is a short one (only 124 pages of text), but the ground that it attempts to cover is very large indeed, embracing the Bible, early Jewish and Christian exegesis, early literary works, later medieval theology, and both Old and Middle English. A separate chapter looks at a Spanish and a French text. All this results inevitably in curtailments, omissions, or potential distortions.
