Description
Summary:Thiselton's Hermeneutics attempts to be both a capstone volume marking the culmination of a long and distinguished career, and a textbook suitable for introducing young students to the study of hermeneutics. It is considerably more successful when read as the former than the latter., The book does, as the publishers are at pains to point out, cover an extensive range of material, and the voice of the author is clearly heard on every page. There are three introductory chapters, which cover, in turn, ‘The Aims and Scope of Hermeneutics’, ‘Hermeneutics in the Contexts of Philosophy, Biblical Studies, Literary Theory, and the Social Self’ and ‘An Example of Hermeneutical Methods: The Parables of Jesus’.
