Summary: | Theresult of two American conferences on theological aesthetics sponsored by the Franciscan Holy Name Province, this collection of essays is both a snapshot of the current interest in theological aesthetics and ‘a tribute to Hans Urs von Balthasar's contribution to the academic discipline’ (p. xi). The book thus marks Balthasar's influence while reflecting theologically on art beyond Balthasar's consideration by exploring such fields as architecture, painting and post-colonial visual arts. Both the editors are from St Bonaventure University, a Franciscan institution that helped to fund the volume's impressive and no doubt onerous procurements of art reproduction and copyright. |
