Summary: | Charles Williams was born on the 20 September 1886 in Islington and died on the 15 May 1945 in Oxford. He attended St Albans School in Hertfordshire and took up a scholarship to University College London, but was obliged for financial reasons to leave without a degree in 1904. In 1908, Williams became a proofreading assistant at the Oxford University Press and remained with the Press in positions of increasing responsibility until his death. A prolific writer, Charles Williams enjoyed many friendships and was an associate of J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis in the group known as the Inklings. |
