Summary: | Augsburg Fortress is no stranger to imperial contexts; the publication house and its imprints have been producing works in imperial and social-scientific studies of the Bible and church history for well over a decade. The past year marks a particularly high concentration of Fortress titles in which the textual intersections between imperial criticism and postcolonial, rhetorical and feminist readings come across clearly. This review evaluates four of these volumes, appraising their content, comparing their explicit and implicit methodologies and indicating areas where the need for further study remains urgent., Christ and Empire, Joerg Rieger's entry in the ‘Facets’ series, is simultaneously an exercise in systematic theology and historiography. |
