Description
Summary:After the Death of God is both an introduction to two important postmodern philosophers and a manifesto for the return of religious discourse within philosophy. The central claim is that a post-metaphysical, or ‘weak’ conception of the event grounds meaningful or ‘affirmative’ community with others—a claim, one should insist, that is broadly hermeneutic, and that stems from a specifically Western understanding of history and religion. Vattimo and Caputo each contribute a brief original essay for the book, both of which are admirably clear statements of their respective projects. The two essays are followed by separate interviews with Jeffrey Robbins, who is a sympathetic interviewer and serves to draw out more of the broad programmatic elements.
