Schelling's importance for Paul Tillich's thought is very well known. Tillich not only wrote two thesis on Schelling, but also used his basic insights in order to compose the framework of his own system. This dependence can be seen in many particular aspects of Tillich's work, and good examples of it may be found in the relation between the abyss and the ground of beingi in the early speculations on the demonici in the considerations about the ambiguities of life and in the importance given to the dynamics of symbols as a tool to understand human history. |
