Summary:The motu proprio Sacramentorum sanctitatis tutela reminds bishops of the long-established competence of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in penal matters concerning more serious moral offences committed by clerics, including sexual abuse of minors. In addition to harmonising with the 1983 Code, the Congregation's own procedures for dealing with such offences, the motu proprio underlines the Long-standing obligation of bishops to inform the Congregation of such offences and how this obligation is fulfilLed.
