| Summary: | Voegelin recupera a temática acerca das estreitas relações entre religião e política por meio de um tema que ganha destaque em sua obra: o gnosticismo. Ele passou a lidar com os movimentos gnósticos enquanto tentava entender a ascensão dos movimentos totalitários europeus do século XX. Voegelin se dedica ao estudo dos movimentos sectários oriundos da Antiguidade cristã, que se desenvolvem ao longo da Idade Média, permanecem na modernidade e, segundo ele, chegam ao auge com nazismo e estalinismo. Neste artigo, tentaremos mostrar como Voegelin estudou sistematicamente algumas características dos movimentos gnósticos, bem como ele difunde a ideia de que os regimes totalitários são resultado de uma espécie de secularização do gnosticismo. Voegelin recovers the matter about the close relationships between politics and religion through a very important topic in his work: the Gnosticism. He began to study the Gnostic movements when he tried to understand the rise of European totalitarian movements in the 20th century. Voegelin studies the sectarian Gnostics movements coming from the Christian Antiquity, which develop in Middle Ages, remain in Modern Age and culminate with the Nazism and Stalinism. In this article, we intend to show how Voegelin studied systematically some characteristics of the Gnostics movements, as well how he spreads the idea that the totalitarianism is a result of a immanentization originally from Gnosticism. Besides we will investigate some criticism about the Voegelin’s theory. |
