Summary: | In the year 1794 the Bavarian theologian Johann Michael Sailer (1751-1832) published a German translation of the Imitatio Christi. His remarkable translation - with a long introduction and much comment - became very influential, especially among German speaking people. It helped the Imitatio to become "a book of the people". It even inspired Dutch priests to make a similar translation of the Imitatio in Dutch. Sailers translation has been re-edited many times, until our days. |
