Description
Summary:The aim of this paper is to contribute to the discussions about the notion of the human being (“person”) in candomblé, from the viewpoint of an ethnographic research in a terreiro of ketu nation, which is strongly influenced by Ifá system in its ritual practice and cosmology. The perspective adopted here is that of health care in candomblé. The person is situated in a meshwork of relations with cosmos and society. He/she is conceived as constituting a series of elements, that are defined by material and spiritual parts. Among them, orí, the head, takes a prominent place, since it is the basis of personality and thought and contains all the potentialities that can be realized in his/her life.
