Description
Summary:This study traces the changing role of medical missions in the larger evangelistic strategy of the Maryknoll missioners and examines the goals of Mother Mary Joseph Rogers, foundress of the Maryknoll Sisters. Beginning with the founding of Maryknoll, this article discusses how the Sisters changed their view of missions from a top-down to a grassroots approach (influenced by Vatican II as well as by Mother Mary Joseph's view of missions) and illuminates how that change affected the ways in which the Sisters pursued medical missions.
