Description
Summary:The symbol of the cross within the crescent provides the conceptual framework for reflection. First, the context of the encounter is seen as the impact of modernity, postmodernity, globalization, and multipolar conflicts in addition to the traditional tensions. Second, emerging Islam is analyzed with its liberal, conservative, fundamentalist, secular, mystical, and popular perspectives, most of which are expected to continue. These have influenced perceptions of the Qur'an, Muhammad, and women. Third, the encounter of fast-growing Islam and Christianity involves a spectrum of attitudes and approaches with theological, cultural, and humanitarian components. These, finally, raise a host of missiological issues concerning dialogue, cooperation, and proclamation.
