Summary: | The following lines make an attempt, in general agreement with Rendtorff's critique of Pentateuchal criticism, to carry the search for new approaches to Pentateuchal criticism a stage further. They show that the traditio-historical process, pointed out by Rendtorff, of the redaction of the individual "larger units" in the Pentateuch and of their eventual combination into a whole displays close relationships to the Deuteronom(ist)ic formation of tradition. Inferences, in part distinct from those of Rendtorff, can be drawn for the dating of the O.T. redaction of the old Pentateuchal material, indications for their theological interpretation and new criteria for the methods of future Pentateuchal study. |
