Description
Summary:This paper is an attempt to document the extraordinary turn in the relations between Jews and Christians in the past years, especially after the tragedy of the Shoah and Vatican II. To make this novelty apparent, we chose to give a «birds eye view» of two thousand years of dramatic history where Christians made theological, political, cultural, but also physically repressive efforts, to eliminate the Judaic presence from the geographic space close to that occupied by the church. They more or less knowingly roused and asserted anti-Semitism, which led to the tragic events that can be synthesized in the Lager of Auschwitz. Things have so drastically changed in the second half of the 20yh century that we stand before new horizons, but the road is still up-hill. In any case, theological-exegetical problems of enor-mous relevance remain and these can only be resolved in a calm and friendly discussion in a climate of respect and reciprocal esteem.
