Description
Summary:Marciano Vidal’s «civil ethics» propose to research that «minimum common morale» which guaranties a space of convergence and reciprocal recognition among the different ethical positions, both lay and religious. The necessary condition for discovering such a convergence is represented by «deconfessionalization», i.e. the abandoning of «totalizing» visions and exclusive specifics of every position. On this basis the constituting characte-ristics of a civil ethics emerges: it is humane, rational, lay, critical, and leans towards an «enculturation», which is the recognition and integration of the different cultures of a global and multicultural society. In this paper, Furlani reconstructs the theoretical presuppositions and the underlying architecture of the ethics put forth by Vidal and discusses the problems it encounters both on the theoretical level and in its actual exercise.
