Description
Summary:The essay shows that the concept of Anonymous Christian is not a means or an instrument of evangelization; it does not want to force non-Christians to be different from what they are in themselves or stop the hemorrhage of Christians who leave, by making others enter through the back door. The problem of the Anonymous Christian is simply an internal problem regarding the Church’s self-perception. In fact, the theory’s pastoral application can be found in the encyclical of Pope John Paul II, Redemptoris Missio, and the document of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Dialogo e annuncio: riflessioni ed orientamenti sul dialogo interreligioso e sull’annuncio del vangelo di Gesù Cristo. The encyclical is emphatic about «the urgent need for missionary evangelization» in today’s world. However, the document wants to show how the propagation of the gospel and interfaith dialogue are correlated although they are two distinct elements of the Church’s evangelizing mission.
