| Résumé: | Intertextual connections of literature and religion are less rare than one might think after modernity brought about a huge divide between artistic and religious experience, aesthetics and theology. This paper draws on a broader understanding of intertextuality as the space where the textual world of books touches the ambivalent texture of people’s everyday lives. On this basis, the paper would like to cast light on the three main aspects of intertextual links between religion and literature: the perception of an unusual fluctuation in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries of religious topics from the theological environment to the world of literature; the necessity to outline a basic post-modern framework for reconsidering the «genealogy» of the relationship between literature (as an aesthetic experience) and religion (as a human experience of the divine), on the one hand, and the meaning of their conjunction in contemporary western culture, on the other; and finally the quest for a stance that characterizes the aesthetic experience of literature facing the ultimate question of human finitude – a stance that could be a possible space of interaction with the Christian belief of God’s incarnation as the human reconciliation with our own finitude. |
