| Summary: | There is a widespread spiritual need to which mountains, seen both as a physical place and as a basic element of the modern aesthetic imagery, seem to offer an adequate answer today. To a growing number of people, mountain peaks and valleys appear as the quintessence of a resonant natural environment: a vibrant place that, rather than draining power from body and mind, bestows massive doses of positive energy on those who visit them. In this journal section, edited by Paolo Costa, the varied personal, social, aesthetic, anthropological and spiritual meanings that people tacitly or explicitly find in the mountain landscapes are examined through an explorative essay and two in-depth interviews with the Italian writers Paolo Cognetti and Folco Terzani. |
