Description
Summary:The essay offers a brief survey on some New Testament passages (i.e. I Corinthians 6, I Timothy 1, Judas 6-7 and Romans 1) which deal with the issue of ho-mosexuality. Trying to frame the debate within the perspective of an Italian Protestant Church, but underlining, at the same time, the plurality of standpoints on this specific issue, the Author tries to show that it is difficult - perhaps impossible - to use New Testament quotations to condemn homosexuality as we understand it today: as a dimension of the human being, rather than a choice of the individual. Only if single words taken from New Testament passages are misused - without understanding them in their context - can this lead to the condemnation of homosexuals and their exclusion from the life of the Church. The experience of many Protestant Churches shows that a new understanding of biblical texts can avoid this perspective, without renouncing the authority of Scripture in the Church.
