Description
Summary:The necessity for a combination of such qualities as a thorough understanding of music, linguistic analysis, and cultural sensitivity for the development of an adequate hymnody is developed and illustrated by Mr. Riccitelli in this article. Music, like language, and like culture in general, is an area where technical knowledge can shortcut years of frustrating and sometimes very damaging experimentation. Musical specialization is needed for the church around the world. The linguistic and cultural elements are of prime importance as well. The bulk of this paper deals with specific problems in the interrelation of language and music which produces an effective hymn.
