Summary: | After the Second World War, the Soviets and the Americans fought for influence in Afghanistan. This article summarises the tensions that developed in the country both with foreign powers and among the mujahideen themselves, while recounting the rise of the Taliban. Looking at the current situation, it is clear that the Afghan central government and the occupying forces failed to gain the trust of many of the local inhabitants and therefore lost control of many regions. This allowed the Taliban to regenerate. Another great power may be ready to fill the space that has been left vacant: China. |
