Description
Summary:Black brotherhoods have been one of the most efficient means of slaves and free people integration in the Portuguese society. This article is about the most ancient regulation of one black brotherhood in Portugal and about its integration in the several religious associations. About the Confraria do Rosário, it aims through the study of that regulation to know the funding sources, the functions of the Confraria, and subsequent forms of application. Based in the parochial records of Óbidos at the time, it aims to evaluate the demographic weight of the captive population, from which the Óbidos brotherhood was born.
