Attraverso la metafora del gusto, che lo attraversa da un capo all’altro, il Cantico dei Cantici mette in gioco l’indivorabilità dell’Altro, la sua non fagocitabilità, e dunque, ultimamente, l’insaziabilità del desiderio. Like other living beings, the human being eats and drinks; but by contrast with the other living being he is in the thrall of a desire which cannot be reduced simply to need. If need is defined by an emptiness (hunger, thirst) which can be filled or satisfied, desire concerns the inability to be satisfied, the impossibility of being filled. Through the metaphor of taste, which passes from one head to the other, the Song of Songs lays on the line the undevourability of the Other, the fact that he or she cannot be absorbed, and so, finally, the insatiable nature of desire. |
