Summary: | On October 16, 1978, when Cardinal Karol Wojtyła was elected as the successor of Saint Peter, few foresaw that the new Pontiff would renew the Church’s social doctrine. Wojtyła was convinced that it was still valid and should be further developed. Upon being elected Pope, he had the opportunity to realize this project. His contribution to the Church’s social doctrine has proved absolutely decisive, and no other Pope has written so extensively on this subject. This article attempts to synthesize the teachings of the three great social encyclicals of St. John Paul II, highlighting their contributions, validity and internal unity. |
