| Summary: | This paper explores the notion and praxis of "Babad" (immersion) as a significant process of engaging with the poor and other religions of today. In the first part of the essay, the author explicates the etymological and contextual meaning of the term "babad" in the Philippine context. Both the "active" and "passive" elements of immersion prompts insights to our connectedness with the self, with others, with the society, with the world, and with the "Ultimate Other". The second part of the paper deals with the hermeneutics of immersion by pointing out how one understands, feels, and acts through the process of immersion. The third part of the essay draws some implications of the methodology of babad to the inter-religious and intercultural dialogue today. |
