Summary: | Today, it appears to be more difficult to get to know how to understand liturgy and especially the eucharistic celebration. This difficulty becomes more important because the Eucharist is the fount and apex of the whole Christian life (see LG 11). The Mystery Theology (Mysterientheologie) of Odo Casel, who died 70 years ago, can help to regain a deeper understanding. Odo Casel interprets liturgy, particularly eucharistic liturgy, as celebration of the divine mysteries. These mysteries make present God’s salvific deeds through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit for the salvation of the world. It is the revelation of God who lives in inaccessible light. It is also a revelation which is not to be understood by human beings. This revelation leads beyond just holding true religious dogma. It makes possible to experience the living God and to accept redemption as his gift. |
