Description
Summary:In this paper we approach to Miguel Mañara, an exemplary figure of the Baroque gentleman in the 17th Century. His personality was manipulated during the Romantic Age, as he was considered as a Juan Tenorio alter ego, something that was not real. He was coming from a noble family, cavalier of the Calatrava Order, he was a young widow who experimented a conversion process, following the example of Jesus Christ within the Santa Caridad Brotherhood, which main rule was to bury dead people without any relatives. He did a very serious and dedicated activity in this brotherhood, founding a Hospital to help poor people. He was a brilliant writer and he was focused to the death idea, with pieces as Discurso de la Verdad. He also audits the artistic process of building the church of his hospital, outstanding the very beautiful scene of Christ burial in the main altar, from the authorship of Pedro Roldan., En este artículo se realiza una aproximación a Miguel Mañara, ejemplar figura del hombre barroco del siglo XVII.
