Description
Summary:The broad theme of inward and outward migration has been widely documented in Italian songs since the late nineteenth century. In fact, some famous folk songs have narrated the movement of peasants in search of agricultural work outside their regional borders, while the songwriting of the eighties has been able to tell the story about Italian emigration to the Americas. In more recent years, the songs have focused on the story of the many refugees’ journeys across the Mediterranean, who are still trying to escape poverty and war in their countries of origin.
