Description
Summary:There is now a growing awareness and re-awakening in healthcare, and in particular rehabilitation, to authentically distinguish between the science of curing disease and the spiritual practice of healing persons. The healing paradigm offers a model which focuses on those aspects of the person which must be addressed if healing of the human spirit is to occur. This article discusses the following essential components as expressions of wholeness and healing: meaning and purpose; self-esteem; interpersonal relationships; ability to make choices; acceptance of reality; future orientation; sense of accomplishment and religious significance. Consideration is given to how the healthcare environment impacts the healing experience.
