| Summary: | The record of Jacob’s family members in Gen 46,8-27 contains well-known difficulties in the specific names and numbers. This article examines: (1) the differences in the names and numbers between MT and LXX; (2) the manner in which a redactor compiled the text from the source materials; and, (3) how the redactor’s final product presented difficulties, including those of a chronological nature, to some of its earliest readers. The results of this article lead to the view that Dinah is not original to Gen 46,8-27, and that this report of Jacob’s family consists of a Priestly base layer that underwent redactional activity. |
