Description
Summary:In the first eight years of Pope Francis’ pontificate, the experiences he gained in the 76 years he spent in Argentina have given rise to a reciprocation, namely a rich body of speeches that the Pope has produced for the Latin American region. The article presents five themes that have appeared most frequently in the Pope’s seven apostolic journeys to Latin America. These include references to the “founding fathers”, words to women, speeches to young people, encounters with people deprived of their liberty, and, criticism of corruption and liberalism. With his speeches, the Pope has shown himself to have a profound knowledge of the problems of each country and has delivered messages that are relevant to the local context, inserted in a regional sphere and at the same time endowed with a global dimension.
