Description
Summary:Empirical data underline that phases of spiritual dryness were experienced with different intensity and duration by most reli-gious persons, often to regularly by 12 to 16 %, and sometimes by up to 48 %. The underlying causes and triggers vary and may involve reduced perception of the Sacred in life, loss of coherence in life, depressive symptoms and emotional exhaustion – but also tired or even bored negligence in terms of Acedia symptoms. Most seem to have found strategies to cope with these experiences and often behave differently when these phases were overcome. However, for many it is difficult to even talk about the ›difficulties‹ in their religious life which may be a crucial phase in their life. It is obvious that persons experience these phase require adequate support, as they may be at the crossroads of their religious life, resulting either in spiritual desolation and loss of faith or consolidation and spir-itual growth.
