La tesi finora più ripetuta è che si tratti di un argomento del tutto marginale nei documenti conciliari, in quanto Lumen Gentium sembrerebbe privilegiare un’Ecclesiologia a carattere universalistico. L’idea sembra confermata dal numero esiguo dei testi che si riferiscono esplicitamente alla Chiesa particolare e al Vescovo come suo principio e fondamento di unità. Lo studio, attraverso un esame rigoroso dei documenti conciliari, in particolare del Capitolo terzo di Lumen Gentium, prova a mostrare come questo giudizio sia infondato, potendosi pure dimostrare come tale dottrina trovi il suo ancoraggio già nel Concilio VaticanoI. Seppure maggiormente conosciuto per la dottrina sul Primato, quel Concilio ha trattato a lungo la questione degli iura Episcoporum, esplicitamente ripresa dal primo Schema “De Ecclesia” presentato al VaticanoII. Dalle tappe del processo di redazione dei testi emerge quanto la questione dei Vescovi e delle loro Chiese rivesta un’importanza decisiva nel quadro dell’Ecclesiologia conciliare. The relationship between the Bishops and their Churches at VaticanII is again be-coming the focus of attention, both in Ecclesiology and Canon Law. Many scholars think this is an entirely marginal argument in the conciliar documents as Lumen Gen-tium would seem to favor a universalistic Ecclesiology. The idea seems confirmed by the small number of texts that explicitly refer to the particular Church and the Bishop as its principle and foundation of unity. Through a rigorous examination of the conciliar documents –specifically the third chapter of Lumen Gentium– this essay seeks to show how this statement is unsupported, by demonstrating how this doctrine is already anchored in the First Vatican Council. Although better known for its doctrine on the Primacy, that Council dealt at length with the “iura Episcoporum” a matter explicitly taken up by the first Schema “De Ecclesia” presented at Vatican II. From the stages in the process of drafting the texts, it emerges that the question of the Bishops and their Churches is of decisive importance in the context of the Conciliar Ecclesiology. |
