| Summary: | The Pontifical Biblical Commission's document The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church (IBC) details interpretive methods which the Roman Catholic exegete should use in the study of Biblical texts. This article highlights the IBC's description of and encouragement to use the Historical-Critical Method, then further describes these procedures, and finally provides a critical engagement of its assessment. Le document, L'interprétation de la Bible dans l'Église (IBÉ), de la Commission Biblique Pontificale, présente un panorama des diverses méthodes que les exégètes peuvent utiliser pour l'étude des textes bibliques. Le présent article s'intéresse à la présentation que l'IBÉ fait de la méthode historico-critique. Celle-ci, dont la pratique est encouragée, sera d'abord présentée dans ses principales composantes pour ensuite être l'objet d'une évaluation critique. |
