Summary:The Mariavite Old Catholic Church functions simultaneously in two legal and liturgical orders. In Poland, the Church is subject to Polish legislation, whereas the liturgy is celebrated in the Mariavite version of the Tridentine rite. In the Republic of France, which, according to its tradition, is a lay country, the Church is subject to French legislation, whereas when it comes to the liturgy, it has its own rite, similar to the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. The legal and liturgical dualism is especially noticeable when it comes matrimony, which is a sacrament for the members of the Mariavite Old Catholic Church. Despite the diversity, the teachings of the Church , civil unions is coherent. This paper addresses canonical and theological issues of the matrimony from the perspective of the Mariavite Old Catholic Church. It also presents the civil law context and the relations between the state and the Church
