Sumario: | This article considers select ecumenical dimensions of admitting divorced and civilly remarried Catholics to Holy Communion. It begins by presenting fundamental concepts in canon law and moral theology necessary to contextualize the current debate. The article then proceeds to examine the restictive doctrinal developments in the apostolic exhortation Familiaris consortio and Cardinal Kasper's critical assessment of this teaching in The Gospel of the Family. It concludes with a brief assessment of the status quaestionis. |
