Of par- ticular interest is C.23 q.4 c.33, originally from Ambrose, which treats the challenging topic of "unjust mercy". Die Distinctio "Delicto Coram iudice manifestato", zum ersten Mal hier ediert, ist ein kurzer Prozesstraktat über den kirchlichen Richter. Aus dem späten 12. Jahrhundert, und vielleicht vom Autor des Perpendiculum, stellt die Distinctio uns mit ihrer Auswahl von Canones aus Gratian die Stellung der Rechtswissenschaft und Praxis im anglonormannischen Raum dar.
