Summary: | The "Directorio para confesores y penitentes" of the Third Mexican Council (1585) is a masterpiece of the post-Tridentine pastoral praxis of the Sacrament of Penance in the New World. It was strongly influenced by Jesuit spirituality and at the same time firmly rooted in social context of Spain. Although the "Directorio" was never published canonically, the recent scholary publication by Carrillo Cázares (2011, El Colegio de Michocán) invites reflection on the document's social, theological and canonical significance. |
