Description
Summary:The process of social and economic modernization that starts in Argentina during the last quarter of XIX Century involves the incorporation of massive immigration to the provincial social structure. So, the countryside of Córdoba was filling up the agricultural colonies and foreign population. The Church was not unaware of this process. This article aims to analyze the ecclesiastical policies related to the immigrant secular clergy between 1875 and 1925. During that period of time deep transformations took place, related to economic modernization, cultural changes, progress in the conformation of the nation-State and the conformation of the nation-State and the conformation of the Church in the unified Argentina, ending what Di Stefano calls "rioplatenses churchs" and Ayrolo "provinces-dioceses", that is to say, local church with weak institutional basements and closely related to provincial states. A period of ecclesiastical consolidation starts, according to roman prototype, that stressed papal m episcopal and parochial authority, diminishing privileges of civil governments, and aimed to a greater centralization or ecclesiastical government, an improvement in clergy formation and a stimulus to evangelization. In this context, the incorporation of foreing priests to the diocesan structures involves a challenge for ecclesiastical authorities for modeling and disciplining clerical behaviors.
