Summary: | Michael, a Catholic, and Gretchen, a Lutheran, have approached their parish priest about marriage. They plan to seek a dispenasation from the observance of canonical form so that they can marry in Grechten's Lutheran pastor, as officiant. In the course of the pre-nuptial investigation, it is discovered that Gretchen was baptized in the Catholic Church as an infant at the insistence of her Catholic father. While she was still an infant, her parents divorced and her mother remarried a Lutheran. All of Gretchen's religious formation has been in the Lutheran church where she was eventually confirmed and she has always considered herself a Lutheran. Can Michael's local ordinary grant the dispensation form the observance of the canonical form or is this dispensation reserved to Holy See? |
