Summary:Referring to his cultural background the author delas with the Motu Proprio Intima Ecclesiae natura (11 November 2012) of Pope Benedict XVI. This MP fills the regulatory gap of the Code of Canon Law about the charity service of diocesan bishops. Once decribed the charities to which the rules of MP apply, and stressing the pecularities of the Caritas and of the works of the institutes of consecrated life, the article deals with: 1) the rights and duties of diocesan bishops about charity services in their diocesis; 2) the charity activities, their meaning, their legal and pastoral characteristics; 3) the connection between the MP and the charity activities of the institutes of consecrated life, and ist legal consequences
