Description
Summary:"A gentleman contacted our Latin Catholic parish in the United States to inquire about convalidating his current union in the Catholic Church. This gentleman is currently married to an Armenian Orthodox woman. The couple wed in her Armenian Orthodox Church. This man presents himself as a Latin Catholic, but upon investigation it becomes clear that he is actually Russian Catholic. Our gentleman was previously married to a Latin Catholic woman and his current Armenian Orthodox spouse had a prior marriage to an Armenian Orthodox husband in an Armenian Orthodox Church. The Armenian Orthodox Church, through their own ecclesiastical process, has addressed the wife's prior bond of marriage, thereby permitting this Armenian Orthodox woman to marry this Russian Catholic man in her Armenian Orthodox Church. At this time, the Russian Catholic man discovers that he is terminally ill with cancer and wants his current marriage to his Armenian Orthodox wife recognized by the Catholic Church. He also wants to receive Penance and Holy Communion and prepare for the possibility that he may die soon. Does the Catholic Church recognize his current marriage in the Armenian Orthodox Church? If not, what needs to be done to regularize his status and have his marriage rectified according to the Catholic Church?" 1127.1; 834.2 CCEO
