Summary:Catholic and International Law Conceptions of Religious Freedom and Proselytism: an Outline - The Author presents the concept of proselytism according to international law taking into account the related catholic doctrine. On the basis of the examination of the Case of Law of the European Court of Human Rights and of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights regarding some Constitutional Charts, the contribution highlights on the one hand the contradictory relation between religious freedom and proselytism and on th eother proposes distinguishing criteria between religious witness and abusive proselytism. Drawing from the case law on the subject matter, it emerges that proselytism is framed in the wider context of protection of religious freedom. In this respect, the Church's magisterium (particularly after the II Vatican Council) has taught to reject every form of proselytism employing violence against individual freedom to embrace the truth
