Summary: | The Origin of Propaganda Fide: the Contribution of the Early Cardinals. From a dynamic-institutional perspective, the history of missionary Law was promoted in modern times. After the Reformation and the Council of Trento missionary effort experienced a strong boost which would have lead the governing body to consolidate previous efforts in the pursuit of the stabilization of a missionary dicastery. This was due to different reasons. On the one hand the exigencies stemming from spiritual needs as the fight against heresy, the spreading of the Catholic Faith in still unexplored countries. On the other hand the ecclesiastical claim of enyoing his own original sovereignty against the secular potentates.
