Summary: | Missionary Formation in Seminaries: Ecclesiastical Law and Reality. The present study integrates canonical norms with principles from theology and Church teaching, in the context of the present-day, especially of India and other Asian countries. The Author intends to focus on the missionary dimension of formation in seminaries, based on the Code of Canon Law and on some recent documents of the Church. Considering the vastness of missionary formation, the study intends to adress only some of the basic ideas that are presented in the canons on the formation of seminarians. After preliminary considerations about mission and the missionary dimensiopn of Priesthood, the study considers the nature of seminaries and the integral formation there imparted: spiritual, doctrinal and missionary. This last dimension is colerated with the capacity to relate varoius peoples in the dioces, with the ecumenical questions and social problems and with the so-called de-colonization and the inculturation and with the diocesan organization about missions. Finally, the Study emphasizes the need to ensure qualified and competent formators. Even if diocesan seminaries are not mission institutes, the ad gentes dimension cannot be extraneous to seminaries: Seminarians, even those in the seminaries of mission territories should be concerned not only for the particular Church in which they'll be incardinated, but also for the universal Church |
