Description
Summary:The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate, that in the Church, authority is excercised legitimately if it is committed to the common good of the Church. It presents a definition of the main concept of the Bonum commune Ecclesiae and offers an analysis of the relevant terminology in the 1983 Code of Canon Law. In the discussion of the Common Good of the Church as a criterion for regimen, the paper follows the tripartite distinction between legislative, judicial and executive power. Under each section the author presents the general principles gleaned from the Allocution of the Suprems Pontiffs to the Roman Rota, followed by a detailed description of the relevant canons wich make explicit mention of the concept of the common good or other cognate concepts. The last main section offers a number of considerations regarding the Bonum commune Ecclesiae as a criterion for the exercise of rights by the Christian fatihful with special reference to c. 223 and the authoritative commentaries of the Supreme Pontiffs
