| Summary: | Twice this year I have had persons in the parish I serve come to me and ask to be married in the parish. Then as we get into marriage preparation they indicate that, as far as their practice of faith in the marriage, they and their fiances intend to find some sort of "compromise church." Setting aside the pastoral considerations ("Don't you think your fiance should accept the whole 'you' and isn't part of that your Catholic upbringing?", "Why would you want to get married in a Church you are intent on leaving?" etc.), would it be your judgment that entering marriage (in or out of the Catholic Church) with such an intent is tantamount to the "formal act" of canon 1117, et al.? |
