Often their experiences are dreadful; frequently enough, their experiences are moments of God's in-breaking. This in-breaking is the restoration of communion with others from whom persons with disabilities were excluded by a normate/ableist hegemony. 1 Considering and exposing the history of abuse and oppression of people with disabilities, I challenge disciples of Jesus to stand in solidarity definitively with those who are poor and marginalized as their Master has done. Speak with people once thought unclean, touch them, dine with them, become a friend, and identify with them for, as Jesus becomes disabled by the crucifixion, whatever disciples may do with those who are disabled, disciples do so with Jesus.
